The NHSN Club at www.noonhourstoryninjas.com connects students who love to write with some of their favorite authors for advice on writing, stories and how to be published.

Joining the NHSN Club also gives these keen writers a self-paced four-lesson module on writing a short story, and a self-paced four-lesson module on the editing process.

Students become involved in the NHSN Club in one of two ways.

The first is for a teacher or librarian or student leader to form a club at the school, with the option to let their writers access the school NHSN Club and all its resources via their individual email addresses.  (For schools with policies that don’t allow students to use their email addresses, we have set up an alternative way for them to join with fictitious email addresses that give privacy protection.)

Librarians can also use the events as virtual author visits — they can register up to 20 writers in the NHSN Club, but are welcome to broadcast the event to other students to increase interest in reading. (Who wouldn’t want to have eight different authors for their students over eight weeks, right?)

At schools without an organizer, the second way for a student to become involved is to join as an individual.

During each 45-minute event on Fridays, we’ll have a guest author present a specific piece of writing advice via Zoom webinar and include time for chat box conversations with students who have questions.

As indicated at the schedule on the website, we have a rolling schedule each Friday to accommodate students in different time zones. This gives everyone a chance to attend as many live events as possible. If a school club or individual student is unable to attend the live event, the recording is available in the NHSN Club area.

As well, students can submit questions ahead of time; if they aren’t at the live event, they’ll still hear the authors address their questions when they view the recording and feel like they were part of it.

Librarians and teachers and student leaders can host the events, either broadcasting from the smart board to their group, or gathering students to each be on individual devices. We encourage lots of club discussion after each event!

Students who join as individuals are encouraged to check with a teacher to be able to use lunch time to enjoy their time with the authors.

We start with a special event on Thursday, March 28. This is spring break for some teachers, so the recording will be available for when they return to school. Then the schedule resumes on Fridays, beginning April 12 and ending May 31.

As for the cost, the organizing librarian or teacher or student can register here to form a school club for $140, and can invite up to 20 writers to join. (For schools with more than 20 writers, just email me and we’ll definitely accommodate you with a slight increase in cost!)

Or individual students can register here for $30.
